This post is specially dedicated to the following bloggers, whom I have not met, but have inspired me to consider learning how to cook. They enticed me with their awesome and most of the times drop dead gorgeous pictures…….. and after reading their detailed yet entertaining write-ups, I was hooked. Somehow, they managed to make cooking sounds less scary, and very doable even for “newbies” like me, something none of the many cooking books that my hubby bought me over the decade managed to do. His way of trying to get me to cook, I think.
Without further ado, and in no particular order, I would like to thank the owners of the following blogs for starting me off, in my cooking adventure. Thank you very much for being soooooooo generous in sharing your recipes and in allowing me to pick your brains in the world of cooking.
[Note : I am sure my list is not exhaustive of the many talented food bloggers out there. If you own a blog with recipes suitable for beginners like me, please let me know. I will be thrilled to add it, to my "resource center"]
When I stumbled on Tigerfish’s blog, during one of those unable to sleep nights, I ended not sleeping and read her blog till it’s time to wake my girls for school! She made me feel that cooking is a simple process, something that can be enjoyed….. something even I can handle……
I was so inspired by her that I made her Tom Yum Noodles for my hubby’s dinner the same day. He refused to believe that I cooked it, thought its my usual, takeway from shops and pour into nice bowls, type of dinner. Then I tried her Wakame Beauty Soup and Mushroom Cabbage Rice. They were all winners……..never knew homecooked meals appreaciated by family members can bring so much joy. Thanks, Tigerfish for starting me off……
She converted my entire family of mooncake haters, to chocolate mooncake from Fook Pan lovers. Before that, all our friends thought we were weird not to like mooncake.
I discovered that she has many simple recipes, in her blog, suitable for beginners like me. I made her Steamed Minced Beancurd. It was yummy delicious, the only complained I got was I made too little…….. wasn’t enough to satisfy their tummy.
I discovered her blog during the recent long bank holidays, where we cancelled our holiday plans (I was down with a bad sore throat, flu and fever). I was seaching the net, for a failproof way of getting soft fluffy rice from my rice cooker, cos I got tired of my never able to predict cooked rice. No, kidding…. I get all kinds of results, undercooked, overcooked, too mushy, ecetera.
Her how to cook your rice post, was invaluable for me. Since then, her blog is like an encyclopedia for cooking, an everyday reference for me. I can’t wait to try out her looks so yummy dishes too.
Fish Congee attracted me to her blog. I googled hoping to find an easy congee recipe that I can handle, for my younger girl who was sick then. Her pictures, write up and seemingly easy recipe, won me over. I was beaming from ear to ear, when my daughter told me that it was the best fish congee that she has ever eaten, even better than the corner shop that she likes.
I have bookmarked a couple of her recipes, to try out soon, keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn out well too.

My love for seaweed found me this blog. After staring and *drooling* at the same time over her absolutely yummy looking Fried Seaweed and Minced Pork, I muster all my courage to try out the dish. My family was soooo surprised that not only the dish was edible, it tasted good too. Even I was surprised….. only concluded that it was not a fluke-shot when I successfully cooked it for a second time.
Though these are baking blogs and I am a pretty experienced baker myself, I am impressed with their informative write-ups, the many pointers that they provide and their fail-proof recipes. I am equally impressed with their less oil and less sugar policy in their bakes.
These two blogs have become part of my morning routine, breakfast+mimosa’s diary+small small baker+ coffee. I look forward to their posts everyday, and feels disappointed when there are no new ones.
Finally a special mention for these two young girls, whose lives are jam-packed with their daily responsibilities and school, and yet managed to churn out “blow me off” bakes and dishes. You gals are my inspiration…….keep up the good work.
